All That Dirt For Sleeping
I made this video for "Dream Delivery Service" at the Nashville Free Poetry Library, February 18 2020, but this isn't about dreams, not exactly. They’re not dreams because this isn’t sleeping, but it can’t really be called waking either. It’s disruption; sick sleep during the day and manic movement at night. These aren’t dreams, and they aren’t visions, but they aren’t real either. It becomes harder to distinguish reality from what it isn’t and you slip from the rhythm of the world. You light candles and brush your teeth when you can but it seems as though there can be no routine here; all ritual is removed. These aren’t dreams because you’re awake but they whisper into your ear and lead you into the middle of the freezing night to dig your own grave.
This video includes versions of two poems: "Onward Rotten Wheel" and "I Don't Have The Stomach For This".
